Sharing the Story: From Youth Work to Curating a Legacy

A heartfelt reflection on being interviewed by Mix 92.6’s Parent Show

Last week I had the privilege of joining Lydia on The Parent Show at St Albans Mix 92.6 to talk about something that means a great deal to me — my journey from youth worker to curator, the legacy of Nick Fraser, and the evolving mission of Imaginative Reaction.

It was one of those rare moments where I got to slow down, reflect out loud, and really connect the dots between all the things that have shaped this path. From launching creative projects in youth centres, to producing music in makeshift home studios, to curating exhibitions that honour artists who were never truly seen — it's all been part of a larger picture I’m still uncovering.

Lydia asked me thoughtful, grounding questions that gave me space to explore.

Talking about Nick, in particular, brought up a mix of emotions — gratitude, responsibility, and quiet determination. Nick was a powerful creative force, but like so many artists working outside conventional structures, he never had the wider support, recognition, or platform he deserved. Sharing his work with the world has become part of a much larger mission: to create a space where others like him can be seen — in their complexity, creativity, and courage.

We also spoke about how Imaginative Reaction came to life — not as a brand or business, but as a living space for experimentation, emotional honesty, and artistic freedom. It's a platform for the people I’ve worked alongside for years — from young people finding their voices to seasoned creators rediscovering theirs.

This radio interview reminded me just how important it is to keep telling these stories — not just for our audience, but for ourselves. To remember where we started, and why we began.

I’m grateful to Lydia and the team at Mix 92.6 for holding space for this conversation. And thank you to everyone who’s supported, contributed, or simply listened.

This story belongs to all of us.
