Wendy Sherwood

Originally from Birmingham, Wendy Sherwood is a professional artist in Watford. Having recently graduated with a Certificate in Contemporary Portraiture from The Art Academy, London, Wendy is developing a portfolio of portraits for a solo exhibition in autumn 2026. Wendy is very keen to be part of a local art community and develop a network of portrait artists willing to sit for each other to develop skills in painting from life.
My Story
Wendy Sherwood has a passion for portraiture, and has used mixed media, print and oil paints.
Currently Wendy is creating a portfolio of portraits of people of Watford, representing individuals and groups as they wish to express themselves now, alongside their narratives of how they came to be in Watford.
The theme is shadows - in, out, from the shadows or being the shadow - open to individuals' interpretations and how it relates to the individual. Wendy is open to being approached by anyone interested in being part of this project or nominating someone for the project.

"It was a real pleasure to connect with Wendy after she signed up to join us. Hearing more about the story behind her portraits gave me an even deeper appreciation of her work. I especially enjoyed listening to her interest in the journeys people have taken to arrive in Watford – how they ended up here, what brought them, and how they see themselves within the community.
As someone from a mixed heritage background, it really resonated with me – the idea of crossing paths, stories merging, and identities forming in this shared place. It made me reflect on my own family history, and how my roots came together right here in Watford."
